Snake Bite Care Guide

When we talk about snakes there’s no doubt that some of us are pretty much scared of them. You never know when it’s coming and when it does, not many of us can be Mr. I’m-all-calm-when-I-see-snake. Common reactions would be running our lives out from it, so what happens when you actually get bitten, here’s a basic guide of what to do when you are bitten by a snake.

First of all, let’s look at the symptoms of snake bites. The signs of snake bites usually show up within a few hours after the snake has actually bitten you, notice that you might get swelling, blisters, or your skin turns really reddish. If you feel nausea, feverish, sweats, or you can actually taste metal or mint in your mouth then it’s most likely true that you have been bitten by a snake.

It’s really important that you stay calm after the bite; you should try to breathe in deep, and find a place to lie down. After you’ve found a perfect spot to relax, loosen up the clothes that are tight, preferably near the bite mark. Tear a piece of cloth from anywhere near by, it could be from your own wardrobe and tie up the wound tightly but not too tight; this is in case the clinic or hospital is far away from where you are.

Once the wound is wrapped, find an ice pack and apply it over the wound for fifteen minutes for an hour, meaning after fifteen minutes you take the ice out and have a mini break, then continue to put the ice back, however, don’t even think about wrapping the wound with ice pack, that’s only going to make things worse. For those in need of something to relax their mind, drink water instead of alcohol. If the snake is poisonous, it is highly recommended that you take immediate care with the professional after you follow this basic guide.

Although snakes are dangerous, it would also help if we ourselves are cautious; therefore, it is important that we pay close attention to where we are. If you’re in the forest or a jungle, it is safer to wear boots, long covered jeans, long sleeves shirt just to be protective, and make sure that you always walk on the trail provided, and better yet the trail should be clear and not full with long grass because you never know what’s underneath. Try to stay far from where the snake lives say a pond or somewhere that are full with bushes and rocks, snakes are a great chameleon, they blend in with the nature so well that it might be difficult for us to see them. Whenever you go camping, carry a snake bite kit with you at all times, these kits can be bought from your local camping stores.
